For many decades, Kreuzberg was on the outskirts of West Berlin. The coordinates have shifted. Today, Berlin-Mitte is the direct point of reference, although Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Neukölln can also be reached quickly. In addition to the legendary SO 36, the Bergmannkiez is the most well-known area for Berliners and tourists alike. The Bergmannkiez is located in the part of Kreuzberg that some already describe as middle-class. The fact is, there is a certain understatement, because students, academics, artists and normal families mix, with a relaxed atmosphere, a certain serenity and also the typical Berlin way to be found. Thus, the Bergmannkiez in particular can be described as an authentic neighborhood.
